How long does it take to register a domain name?
It usually takes about one to two weeks for Internic to register a domain name.
May I have a domain name that includes numbers and dashes? I mean, may I have a domain name of something like this: www.mydom-123.com?
Yes, your domain name may include numbers, letters underscore (_) and dashes (-), other characters can not be used because they have reserved meanings. Also note that uppercase and lowercase characters are treated the same. There is no differnece between WebTyme.Net or webtyme.net.
How can I find out if a domain name is available?
You can go to the WebTyme "Sign Up" form and use the Internic look up tool. Or you could also use the "whois" command to check if the name you want has been registered.
May the URL of my domain name be http://mydomain.com instead of http://www.my-domain.com, or is the latter dictated by Webtyme's setup?
You'll be able to use either after your own name is registered. At the moment, however, convention favors the www prefix, so you might think of sticking to that.
These domain names that you use as examples all end in .com. Would you have any trouble establishing a domain name under the .ORG root-level domain?
No, no problem at all. In order to use .ORG, however, please understand that you need to be a non-profit organization. A full list root-level names can be found at Internic.
Do I own the domain name?
Yes, you own the domain name. For a very small service fee, we will fill out, and submit the forms to Internic. Internic will then bill you directly for the registration and maintenance of the name.
Is the domain name registration fee a one-time fee?
Our fee is one-time. Internic will charge you $50/year after the first two years. The initial $100 fee is for two years.
Do you provide services for people outside the U.S.A.? We are in Finland / Austria / Spain / United Kingdom / New Zealand / ...
Yes, we serve international clients.
Do you mean to say that I could pay for your service, and then lease or sell from my country?
Sure, you might choose not to publish your physical location, that is entirely up to you. Our servers are located in California, U.S.A. Some content may however, be subject to local regulation.
We have a site in our country. Is it possible to set up a mirroring facility so that all documents are automatically mirrored from our existing Web site?
Yes, this is possible.
I have a user account with an ISP already. How does your email work? Will messages addressed to me at login@MyDom.com show up in my current mailbox at my current ISP, or do I have to get them from your mail server?
You can choose to have the messages addressed to login@YourDom.com, and have the mail forwarded to your mailbox at your current ISP, or you can choose to get the mail directly from our mail server via the Internet. WebTyme also offers a FAX service whereby your email is converted to FAX and sent to your office. There are additional charges for this service.
I already have a domain name. Do I have to pay another registration fee if I transfer to Webtyme?
If WebTyme files the transfer, there is a small service fee. You will not be billed by Internic. The $50/year covers such transfers.
I already have a domain with another service provider. If I move to you, will I be able to keep my previous domain name?
Yes, you may. You will simply need to set the DNS for your domain name to an IP address that we will assign to you. The transfer may take up to three weeks.
Is re-selling of Webtyme's service allowed?
Yes. In fact, we encourage our customers to repackage and resell our service.
What kind of server and OS is Webtyme using?
We use Sun workstations running Solaris 2.5.
What server software are you running?
We have both NetScape Commerce and Enterprise servers.
What level of security will exist?
The WebTyme server is protected against unauthorized intrusion by a firewall and software configured for that purpose. Security is always the highest priority at WebTyme, and for that reason our security measures are under constant review.
Do you provide for secure transactions?
Yes, we offer access to Netscape's secure Enterprise Server as an option.
Do I have full access to my domain for maintenance? May I create and remove sub-directories, upload and delete files...
Yes, you may do all of this maintenance yourself, or you can contract with Webtyme to take care of these issues for you.
Do I have to rely on someone else to update my web pages, or can I have absolute control over those?
The web pages are your own creation. You use them as you see fit (within the boundaries of the law, of course).
How do I access Webtyme?
Webtyme provides access through the internet for updating or administering the web site. You will need a PPP or SLIP account with either a national or local service provider in order to use Webtyme's service.
How do I update my web pages?
Web pages are updated by placing your files on our server. As a user of the system, you will be provided detailed information on how this is done. In short, files are transfered using File Transfer Protocol (FTP). This is a standard utility program available for MAC's and PC's running OS/2, Unix or Windows.
Our company will want to update our pages frequently. Although our overall storage size will not need to increase, we will want a great deal of data transfer. How will that affect our charges with Webtyme?
As long as your monthly payment is up to date, you have unlimited data transfer - your Webtyme costs will not be affected by the amount of data you transfer.
We are a group of four friends who would like to subscribe together. We would like separate directories off one signature. So what we want is something like this:
Is something like possible?
Yes, that is possible, but each individual would need their own account our system. The charges for each account would depend on how much disk space would be used by each individual.
I want to be able to have several email accounts attached to my domain, and the mail must be forwarded to other addresses. For example, if I register my domain name as mydomain.com, I want to have george@mydomain.com, fred@mydomain.com, etc. Is this possible, and how much would it cost me?
Yes, it is possible. In this example, the users all have the same domain name, so you will have to pay the following fees:
If I wanted to set up extra telnet accounts, how much would that cost me?
An extra $10 per account per month.
How exactly will the email pickup and delivery work? Can mail be picked up from your machine via a POP client via PPP or SLIP? My concern is that replies from a .forward account will not include the domain name registered under you.
You can pick up your mail through either system. Alternately, you can have your email forwarded to your current provider automatically.
If I want to sub-lease or sell, do my customers have to approach Webtyme, or may I deal with them directly?
They do not have to deal with Webtyme at all. In fact, they do not even have to know that you are using Webtyme.
Is there any "per hit" charge using Webtyme's service?
No. There is no "per hit" charge for using Webtyme's service.
How much will an auto-responder cost?
Simple auto-responders can be setup using the WebTyme software library. New features and functions are being added all the time. We have a development page where you can get information about these tools once you have an account on our system. Often, our customers have special needs, at WebTyme we work together with you to provide the tools to make your site work.
What is this thing you call an auto-responder?
An auto-responder allows the system to automatically reply to email requests.
I want to be able to do a great deal with my page. I want to be able to author in HTML, maintain the page, allow visitors to be able to hear sound files, and leave their email and snail mail addresses in HTML boxes so that I can retrieve them later. Can I do all of this?
Yes, you can do all of that and more.
Does Webtyme offer Internet connectivity?
No, Webtyme does not offer Internet connectivity to any of our clients.
What is the best method and minimum term of payment?
We prefer payment by credit card. If you pay by card, you may pay month-by-month. If you pay by check, there is a minimum rental of three months.
I have no card. Would you accept a bank wire transfer from my country?
We would prefer you to mail a check to us for our records. All checks and Money orders must be only International drafts payable in USA dollars drawn on a USA Bank.
May we pay an annual fee? If so, do you offer a discount for this payment?
Yes, you may pay an annual fee. No, there is no discount.
In the terms and conditions agreement, you mention that there may not be more than one login session at a time. Does this mean that only one user may access my Web page at a time?
No. What this means is that you, as the owner of the domain, may not have two people from your site updating pages at the same time. As far as other users are concerned, however, more than one user may access your Web page at a time.
When will my virtual web server be up and running?
The virtual web server is set up when the account is set up. Users on the Internet, however, will not be able to locate the server until the domain name is fully registered with Internic. If, however, you put the IP address of 207.211.153.34 as your default name server in your TCP/IP configuration, you will be able to access your web site before Internic completes the domain name registration process. You can also present you page by appending your name to our URL. For example if you were waiting for registration of "xyzabc.com", you could locate your page at "http://www.webtyme.net/xyzabc". After the registration is complete your URL would be "http://www.xyzabc.com".
WebTyme also offers service to our customers who do not wish to register a domain of their own. In that case the URL for that site would also be appended to our URL as in the above example.
How long does it take for you to set up the account?
From the time your agreement is accepted, it should take less than 48 hours. You will be notified when the account is set up.
How can I be sure that after I set up a few of my customers on the web, then, you won't notify me 15 days in advance that your rates are dramatically increasing?
Because we don't want to lose you as a customer. We plan to remain the lowest-costing provider on the Internet, and we will do our best to keep the price stable. Unless something drastic happened, we would not, and do not want to change our price structure.
